Saturday, 8:15pm, we were packed and ready to go, when our scheduled airport ride abruptly cancelled on us. In preparation for 10:45pm boarding, we were to arrive at Logan 9:30pm. Instead, we arrived at 10pm, which we didn’t think would be a problem…
But then we saw the massive checked-bag line (left). To make matters worse, the self-service machines were down— go figure. However, after standing there for 5 minutes like a couple of noobs, we realized the massive line was for a different airline! Whoops! No line at Delta (who we would be flying with)!
Our checked bags being the exact same weight (and not oversized) was a great start to our adventures. A sign that we would be aligned throughout our journey.
With our flight taking off at about 12:30am we wasted no time getting comfortable and ready for sleep.
Hadleigh slept for the whole plane ride, Jake for about 3 hours.
Landing in Ireland!

We took a 20 min taxi ride from the Dublin airport to Glasnevin where Hadleigh was reunited with Keeva- her best friend from college !!
After taking a quick power nap we got ready to head out for our first adventure. We hopped on the double decker Dublin Bus to the National Botanic Gardens and avoided some rain.
Upper deck seats were a must.
While strolling to our first pub stop, we briefly explored the botanical gardens. Many greenhouses here to return to another day and appreciate in greater depth.
After a short walk through the gardens we walked through a famous cemetery called “Glasnevin Cemetery” which is the resting place for almost 1.5 million people over the span of 124 acres. The cemetery was filled with beautiful landscape and uniquely carved headstones. We unfortunately did not take any photos here.
After we looped the cemetery we ended up at “The Gravediggers” Pub known for one of the finest pints of Guinness in Dublin. The pub was founded in 1833 and and got its name from the graveyard workers who would frequently visit the pub after long shifts of gravedigging. They would tap on the back wall of the pub and receive pints through a opening connected to the cemetery grounds.
Our last stop of the night was at a pub called “The Back Page” for some music and pizza! We went to see Hadleigh’s friend’s band called “And He The Fool” who are known for playing traditional Irish music. One of the band members Mom works for a charity that helps fund vaccinations for children in Zambia. The band set up this event with a raffle tickets and prizes to raise money in support of this charity.
